PERFORMANCE HISTORY:
2024 Jamie Lloyd Notes:
Set and clothing:
- Very minimalistic set, limited to gray hills and slopes, as well as darkened lighting
- Caliban wears a black latex suit, revealing most of his body - does not wear any
shoes
- Ariel - wears all black accompanied with black face paint, portrayed as very scary
and ominous
Other elements:
- Caliban is dehumanised significantly more, acting like a dog at some point and
crawling across the stage
- Prospero is center stage for the entire first act and the majority of the play, to
represent her power
- Prospero is played by a woman, and such, there are better relations with Miranda,
depicted as more caring and protective
- Ariel and Prospero have a much more gentle relationship, and they are sad to be
parted - Ariel is normally suspended by a harness when talking to those that they do
not like, adding levels to interpretation of power
