Dr. Tlou provided an insightful overview of the significance of commemorating World
Cancer Day, which in 2024 will focus on the theme "Increasing Impact through
Transparency, Accountability, and Partnerships." He underscored the alarming
statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO), indicating that cancer is the
leading infectious killer, claiming over 25 million lives globally, with most affected
individuals aged between 25 and 49Ñan age group that constitutes half of the
national workforce. Dr. Tlou urged the committee to enhance awareness campaigns
to make a meaningful difference.
In response, Dr. Nku encouraged participants to brainstorm innovative and engaging
activities for the upcoming Cancer Awareness Campaign celebrations scheduled for
10 November 2024. He invited suggestions from the attendees.
Dr. Mago praised the government's efforts to combat cancer and acknowledged
improvements in voluntary testing and treatment among the economically active
population. He proposed inviting a guest speaker from the Department of Health to
discuss the corporate sector's role in preventing cancer, emphasizing the impact of
the disease on workplace productivity.
Mr. Sello reported that the SRC has already begun preparations for the event. They
are designing posters and flyers to promote the campaign across all campuses.
Students and staff will wear T-shirts in college colors, and each student will need an
entry ticket priced at R20 to support fundraising efforts. He noted that buses will
transport attendees to the venue by 09:00, and pink ribbons will be distributed to
symbolize the event.
Dr. Tau commended the SRC for their initiative and confirmed that the College
Management has allocated funds for the event, including the guest speaker's fees
and informational stalls from the Department of Health. Free food and refreshments
will be provided after the event, and they are in talks with a musician for
entertainment.
Dr. Lefika added that the Wellness Clinic team is actively working on the event's
credibility, preparing invitations for key community figures and finalizing a catering
budget. They are also looking for a cancer survivor to share an encouraging
message during the celebrations.

INVESTIGATIVE REPORT ON CANCER INFECTIONS AT CONWELL COLLEGE
1. TERMS OF REFERENCE
This investigative report was commissioned on 30 November 2024 by DR Nku,
Manager of the Wellness Clinic at Conwell College. The report is compiled by Lerato
Sithole, Human Resources Manager. The essence of this report is to assess the
prevalence and effects of cancer infections within the college community and to
propose strategies to combat this health issue. The submission deadline for this
report and its recommendations is 30 November 2024.
2. PROCEDURES
Conducted a thorough review of existing literature on cancer infections, including
statistics on prevalence in educational institutions and be up st practices for
prevention and support. Purpose: To provide a contextual background on cancer
infections and identify effective strategies used in similar settings.
