The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) in South Africa is the government office that
helps people with important documents like birth certificates, ID cards, and passports.
This department keeps a record of who people are and makes sure that everyone in the
country has a legal identity. This helps people go to school, get jobs, vote, get social
grants, and use other government services.
To make things faster and safer, the Department of Home Affairs is using new and
smart technology. One of the technologies they are starting to use is called Blockchain.
This technology helps the government keep people’s personal information safe and
easy to use when needed.
Blockchain
It’s is a special way of saving information on computers. It works like a chain made of
many blocks. Each block has some information inside it, and all the blocks are linked
together. Once you put something in a block, it cannot be changed easily. This makes
Blockchain very safe, honest, and secure. If someone tries to cheat or change
information, the system will know, and the change won’t be accepted.
This is useful for keeping ID information, because it protects people’s names, ID
numbers, and birth dates from being stolen or changed by hackers.
