The material in this book is clearly structured and are presented logical. Unlike in previous
centuries, todays individuals are faced with the reality of global living, urbanisation, and
English around the globe and therefor the book, Cutting Edge Advanced, is appropriate.
The content of the unit is appropriately graded and progressively get more difficult at an
appropriate speed. The unit makes good use of practice, recycling, and revision. From
There is a great variety of exercises that students can do individually, in groups and in
pairs. This allow students to compare ideas and give reasons why. The material is clearly
laid out with a good variety of pictures, articles, diagrams etc.
There is a good balance between all the four skills and language areas. Activities range
from listening and reading to writing reports, which should provide a good challenge for
advanced level students. The three topics that are covered in the unit namely,
urbanisation, global living and English language is of an appropriate nature as they are
focused around globalisation and thus not offensive to any culture or religion. The
listening and reading texts are based on topics that the students should be familiar with
thus it should hold their attention.
Although this unit provide a variety of practice activities and group discussions, there is no
mention of any type of formal written test for the students, but the students continuously
get tested on their grammar, communication, vocabulary, listening and reading skills,
which is sufficient.
I would like to use this specific course book in my teaching curriculum. The topic is
interesting and relevant, and each student will be able to relate to it. The material in the
course book is not to difficult for advanced students and the activities are well-
orchestrated and designed that is colourful and attractively presented.
