QUESTION 1 (8)
Read the following case study and answer the questions that follow.
The advisory committee of the Diploma in Administrative Management consists of eight members.
At 08:00 on 3 September 2020 the chairperson of the committee, Sipho Mdluli, opens the monthly
meeting of the committee. He welcomes all eight members present and asks Mandla to present the
new marketing strategy, which Mandla proceeds to do. The chairperson then asks the members
how they feel about the new marketing strategy presented by Mandla. Some members are not at all
impressed with Mandla’s proposed new marketing strategy and start to criticise it. After ten minutes
of arguing, the director of the programme group arrives. She interrupts the argument and explains
that it is important for them, as the advisory committee, to work together as a team and to avoid
disunity. The deliberations continue and the chairperson eventually announces that the marketing
strategy has been accepted. The chairperson then indicates that the minutes will be sent to the
director. The director, in turn, will send the recommendations of the committee to the, Chair of the
Department (COD) who will distribute them to all staff members in the department for the
implementation of the new strategy.
1.1 Based on the above case study discuss oral communication and explain the importance
of communication in an organisation. Use an example from the case study (8)

2.1 Mr. Buthelezi is a sole trader who operates a welding business based in Soweto. However,
Mr. Buthelezi is contemplating to become a private company and he is willing to expand into
a new location in Swaziland. Identify and discuss macro-environment forces that Mr.
Buthelezi should consider as a legal entity and expanding to a new location outside of South
Africa. (10)
