TEFL Academy Assignment B

Teacher Language
a) Presentation
(Show picture of rain and watching a movie.)
Teacher: Ok everybody, take a look at this picture. What is the person doing in this picture?
Students: Watching a movie.
Teacher: Good! When is the weather nice for watching a movie?
Students: When we can’t be outside because it is raining.
Teacher: Good! Yes! When it rains outside we can’t always be outdoors because it is unpleasant for us.
So IF it rains this weekend I will watch a movie. Please repeat that sentence.
Students: If it rains, I will watch a movie.
Teacher: Good. So does the sentence say I will definitely watch a movie?
Students: No, the sentence says you will watch a movie when if it rains.
Teacher: YES! Do we know if it will definitely rain?
Students: No.
Teacher: The fact that it will rain or not is a weather condition. We also use conditions in sentences. A
condition in sentence means that we are saying what we will do, which depends on things happening
such as us having time, the weather. So me swimming or watching a movie depends on the weather.
Look at the sentence written on the board again. Which word does the sentence begin with?
Students: IF.
Teacher: Yes! So if I begin a sentence with If does it mean that I will definitely happen or is it a
condition?
Students :It is a condition.
Teacher: Well done! How many clauses does this sentence have?
Students: Two.
Teacher:Yes! The first clause is, If it rains tomorrow, This is known as the If clause. Conditional
sentences start with If. Think about the fact that it wont really happen, it will happen IF the condition
allows it to. The second clause, I will watch a movie, is the clause says what I will do which depends on
what will happen in the first clause.
Teacher: So do we know if it will rain?
Students: No
Teacher: Will I watch a movie if it doesn’t rain?
Students: No.
Teacher: Am I talking about the Past, The Present or the Future?
