, 1. My Teaching Philosophy
I believe that teaching is more than just giving knowledge. It is about shaping lives,
guiding young minds, and helping learners reach their full potential. I want to become a
teacher because I want to make a real difference in the lives of young people and help
build a better future for our country. I plan to teach Life Orientation in the FET phase,
focusing on Grades 10 to 12, because this subject deals with real-life issues and helps
learners develop into responsible adults.
Learners learn best when they are actively involved in their own learning. I believe in
using different teaching methods to suit different learning styles, like visual, auditory,
and kinaesthetic learning. In a modern classroom, it is important to include group work,
discussions, visual aids, and technology to keep learners engaged and interested.
Teaching should not be about the teacher doing all the talking. It should be a two-way
process. Teachers should guide, support, and encourage learners. In my classroom, I
will use learner-centred strategies such as problem-solving activities, debates, role-
plays, and project-based learning.
Teaching is a vital profession in South Africa because education is the key to solving
many of the country’s problems, such as unemployment and poverty. Teachers play a
big role in shaping the future of the nation. I believe I can make a difference by being a
caring, respectful, and passionate teacher who encourages learners to believe in
themselves and reach for their dreams.
