Question1
1.1: Explain how global schools spread in the Global South and Global North. (10)
The spread of global schools in both the Global North and Global South can be
understood through the historical dominance and influence of educational
institutions and research outputs:
Dominance of the Global North:
Educational research and curriculum development have historically been
dominated by countries in the Global North (e.g., US, UK, Germany, France,
Belgium).
Scholarly journals and academic discourses were mostly authored by scholars
from the Global North, focusing on their own geographical areas.
Influence on the Global South:
The Global South was subject to colonial education policies, which introduced
Western forms of schooling that prioritized European knowledge systems.
Post-colonial education in the South continued to mimic Northern models due to
a lack of recognition for indigenous knowledge and systems.
Cultural Imperialism:
The spread of schools and education models from the Global North into the South
reflected a form of cultural imperialism, where the knowledge and history of the
South were marginalized.
