Aims
(include hypotheses and research questions if relevant)
1. Does dream recall differ between REM and nREM stages of sleep?
2. Is there a positive correlation between subjective estimates of dream duration and the length
of the REM period before waking?
3. Are eye movement patterns related to dream content?
Procedure
(include method and sample)
Sample:
- 7 adult males
- 2 adult females
Method:
1. Day prior to study => no alcohol/caffeine.
2. Arrived at sleep lab before bedtime and fitted with EEG and EOG.
3. Ppts woken up by a doorbell => said if they were dreaming and reported dream content into a voice recorder [only
classed as dreaming if they could give a detailed description].
4. Experimenter listening outside => entered sometimes to further question ppt on a certain point of their dream.
5. Allowed to return to sleep within 5 minutes.
6. PPTS NOT TOLD WHETHER THEIR EYES HAD BEEN MOVING OR WHAT STAGE OF SLEEP THEY
WERE IN!
Ppts woken up in different ways according to the research question:
