Take note of the following instructions:
Assignment 02 consists of five questions. You must answer
questions 1(a) and 1(b), that is to say, they are compulsory.
Questions 1(a) and 1(b) count 40 marks. Thereafter, you must
answer any four questions, that is, question 2.1 or 2.2, question
3.1 or 3.2, question 4.1 or 4.2 and question 5.1 or 5.2 (4 x 15 =
60 marks), to arrive at a total of 100 marks. Present the answers
chronologically, that is, answers to questions 1, 2.1 or 2.2, 3.1 or
3.2, 4.1 or 4.4 and 5.1 or 5.2. Plan your answers before you write
the final versions. Do not answer all the questions; only the
first five questions answered will be marked.
Based on past experience, some students leave out questions and
then expect the lecturers to reassemble their assignments at a later
, stage by inserting the missing answers. This is a practically
impossible task, given the number of assignments that the
lecturers receive. Therefore, please make sure that you answer all
the required questions and submit them together in a single
document.
You MUST submit your assignment online on myUnisa. Do not
send it (either by post or e-mail) to the lecturers.
Be sure to answer the number of questions required, not all of the
questions. You will be disadvantaged if you ignore this
instruction.
At the honours level, you should preferably submit a typed or
wordprocessed assignment.
Please make every effort to do so.
General guidelines for Assignment 02
⬧ Once you have decided which five questions you are going
to answer, plan the answers carefully (bearing in mind that
questions 1(a) and 1(b) are compulsory).
⬧ Make sure that you provide each essay with a suitable
introduction and conclusion.
⬧ Include suitable headings and subheadings in the body of the
essay, where relevant.
, ⬧ Make sure that you do not deviate from the themes under
discussion in the essays (i.e., do not include irrelevant facts
and/or opinions).
Make sure that you present facts chronologically,
⬧
where appropriate.
⬧
Ensure that the sentences and paragraphs follow one another
logically, in other words, the essay should form a well-
integrated whole; it should not consist of loose, sweeping
statements.
⬧
Plagiarism is a cardinal sin. Do not copy another student's
work. You may work on the assignment in a study group
but you are expected to submit your own, unique
assignment.
⬧ If you obtain all the information that you use in an essay
from the prescribed textbook, you do not need to include a
bibliography or text references. However, if you use
information from any other sources, you must include
references (in the body of the essay) and a bibliography
(directly after the essay).
⬧ The length of an answer should be proportionate to the number of
marks allocated to the specific question.
⬧ In the case of questions 2, 3, 4 and 5, you must choose
between sub-questions. For this assignment, you must
answer either question 2.1 or 2.2, either question 3.1 or 3.2,
either question 4.1 or 4.2 and either question 5.1 or 5.2. You
must answer a total of five questions (including question
1, which is compulsory and counts 40 marks). If you submit
more than the required number of questions, only the first
