Assessment 4: Multiple Teaching and Learning Strategies to Mediate Learning
1. How did Mr. Smith's teaching strategy involving group projects and
presentations affect students with different learning preferences, especially those
who are introverted or need more time to grasp new concepts? (10 marks)
Mr. Smith’s Teaching Strategy (2 marks)
Mr. Smith implemented collaborative learning through group projects and
presentations to teach ancient civilizations. This approach is based on the idea that
students learn effectively when they engage in discussions and work together on tasks
(Slavin, 2014). By assigning a shared task, he encouraged teamwork and active
participation.
Impact on Students with Different Learning Preferences (2 marks)
While this method benefited students who enjoy social learning and verbal
communication, it was not equally effective for all. Research suggests that learners
have varying preferences, such as visual, auditory, reading/writing, and kinesthetic
learning styles (Fleming & Baume, 2006). The group work structure favored students
who are comfortable discussing ideas out loud but posed challenges for others.
