Africanising or decolonising the curriculum in a South
African context refers to the process of restructuring
education to incorporate indigenous knowledge systems,
African philosophies, and local contexts. This ensures that
learning is relevant to the lived experiences, histories, and
cultures of African students. It challenges Eurocentric
dominance in education by integrating African languages,
literature, history, and epistemologies. For example, in
history classes, the curriculum should not only focus on
European colonial narratives but also include African
resistance movements, pre-colonial African civilizations,
and indigenous governance systems. In science,
traditional healing practices can be studied alongside
modern medicine. This holistic approach ensures students
gain a well-rounded understanding of knowledge rooted
in their cultural heritage.

b) Use the lesson plan template below to develop a lesson using
Africanisation (Decolonisation) as a strategy in your FET subject
specialisation. Develop learning materials such as worksheets,
charts, homework activities, remedial and enrichment exercises
which you will attach to the lesson plan. (70)
