Scientific literacy, as defined by Goodrum, Hackling, and Rennie, refers to an individual's ability to engage with and understand scientific concepts, question claims, draw evidencebased conclusions, and make informed decisions about environmental and personal wellbeing. The South African curriculum further expands on this by emphasizing scientific knowledge, understanding the nature of science, awareness of science's role in society, awillingness to engage in science-related issues (OECD, 2006). Scientific literacy is crucial for young learners because it helps them develop inquiry skills, critical thinking, and an appreciation for the natural world.
