1.1. INSTRUCTIONS TO STUDENTS
• The cover page that appears on page 2 should serve as the first page of your completed
portfolio for the 2025 academic year.
• All information required on the cover page of your portfolio should be duly completed.
• Please type your portfolio – handwritten portfolios will not be marked.
• The length of the portfolio should be 100 pages or less. Portfolios exceeding 100 pages will
not be marked.
• There will be no mark for students who submitted blank pages.
• Please note that second attempts are granted to students who have valid reasons; no
student is entitled to a second attempt. It is the lecturer’s prerogative to grant a second
attempt to a student if he/she (the lecturer) deems it fit.
• You will not be granted an extension for this assignment. Therefore, students who are
working while studying should ensure that they do their teaching practice before the due
date.
• You need to submit this assignment a week (five business days) after you have completed
your teaching practice. Your lecturer will enforce this and students who do not comply with
this instruction will be penalised.
• Ten per cent per week will be deducted from a student’s total mark for late submissions. •
Upon receiving each portfolio, the lecturer will verify the student’s submission against the
placement dates from the Teaching Practice Office (TPO) and deduct marks accordingly.
• We discourage you from engaging in teaching practice without a confirmation e-mail from the
TPO; however, students who find themselves forced to do this should inform the lecturer
via e-mail when they enter their second week of Teaching Practice without the
confirmation e-mail from the TPO.
• We encourage you to finish your portfolio during your teaching practice and use the
additional one week for attaching the required evidence before submitting your work.
• You will not be given an extension because of delayed placement / confirmation e-mail;
hence we request you to inform us immediately if you experience delays with the TPO
office with regard to placements.
• You should do teaching practice for this module in the FET phase (Grades 10–12); failure to
comply with this requirement will lead to a student getting a zero, subsequently failing this
module.
• You are required to teach one of your major subjects for this module – for example, if you
major with Accounting and Economics, you will choose either Accounting or Economics.
• When submitting your portfolio, please remove blank pages as this increases the number of
pages unnecessarily.
• Use your student number, your name and surname to save your portfolio ready for
submission – for example: 12345678_Myname_Surname.
• Plagiarised work will not be marked, and disciplinary action will be taken against such a
student.
