MBUDZISO 1: FONETIKI NA FONOḼODZHI
1.1. Ogeni dza u bveledza mibvumo ya muambo

speech sounds.
(a) Mafhafhu (Lips) – The lips are very important in pronouncing sounds. Some sounds
need the lips to come together, like the letter “p” in phanda, while others need the lips
to shape the sound, like “o” in o ṱaḓulu.
(b) Gulokulo (Tongue) – The tongue moves in different ways to produce different
sounds. It can touch the roof of the mouth, the teeth, or stay flat. For example, when
saying “l” in lala, the tongue touches the upper part of the mouth, but when saying “t”
in tshidulo, it touches the front teeth.
