Unit 13CD:
Properties and
reactions of tran
metal complexes
, Introduction
Transition metal complexes are coordination
compounds in which a central metal ion is
surrounded by ligands. These complexes undergo
various chemical reactions, including ligand
substitution and acid-base reactions. By carefully
selecting appropriate reagents, we can identify
specific transition metal complexes based on their
unique chemical properties. In this presentation,
we will discuss a reaction scheme to identify five
transition metal complexes, including their
colours observed and the presence or absence of a
precipitate when certain reagents are added.
