- Why- to remove small particles or chemical from the eye
- Equipment
O Several liters of NS or LR- preferred warm
May add lidocaine to fluid or
Local anesthetic drops, these will need to be reapplied every 5-10 minutes o IV
tubing and pole o Drainage basin and towels o PPE for staff performing

O Place patient in supine position o Test ph 1st- normal is 7.0 o Hold the IV
tubing 3-5 cm from the eye and open roller clamp wide open o Direct the
irrigation stream over the entire surface of the eye o Retract the eyelids to
adequately irrigate the fornices o Recheck ph after irrigation is completed if
not 7.0 continue with irrigation o Length of irrigation varies from causes and
exposure
Ear Irrigation:
- Treatment for cerumen impaction
- Supplies o Water warmed to patient’s body temp
Cold water will cause dizziness
o 60 ml
