As a class, the students excel in reading, with most achieving a Band 7 score, making it their strongest skill. However, their performance in other
areas such as listening, writing, and speaking falls below Band 6. Writing shows a slightly higher average at 5.8, while listening and speaking both
average at 5.75. The overall IELTS Band for the class is currently Band 6, with the average score for listening being 5.8. For reading, the class
averages 6.7, and for both writing and speaking, the average score is 5.8.

,Which two skills have you chosen to teach in this lesson? Why?
Note: State which part of the exam you will focus on for each skill, e.g., Speaking Part 1. (minimum 150 words)
I have chosen to focus on Speaking Part 2 and listening skills for this lesson. After reviewing the class summary, it’s clear that these are the areas where
most students need the most improvement. The class averaged a 5.75 Band score in both skills, which is lower than their scores in reading and writing.
Since the IELTS final grade is equally weighted across all four skills, improving in these weaker areas is essential for students to achieve a higher overall
band score. Additionally, strong speaking and listening skills are crucial for effective communication and meaningful discussions in any topic. Students
must be able to express their ideas clearly, concisely, and confidently.
In this lesson, a significant focus is placed on developing students' listening skills, as identified in their class summary. With an average Band score of
5.75 in listening, it’s evident that this area requires targeted improvement to align with their higher scores in reading and writing. Strengthening listening
skills is crucial for achieving a balanced overall IELTS score since all four components are equally weighted. The lesson incorporates practical listening
activities that mimic the IELTS exam format, providing students with a realistic context to practice. By engaging in specific listening tasks, students will
learn to identify key details and understand spoken English in various contexts. The use of a structured worksheet will facilitate active listening and help
students stay focused during the audio clip. Furthermore, the post-listening feedback session allows students to discuss their answers, promoting
collaborative learning and reinforcing comprehension. By honing their listening skills, students will not only improve their performance in the IELTS exam
but also enhance their ability to engage in meaningful conversations, paving the way for better communication in both academic and everyday
situations.
The lesson also prioritises practice for Speaking Part 2, where students will explore topics related to health and fitness. Given the class's average score of
5.75 in speaking, this segment provides a structured opportunity to focus on improving this skill. Speaking Part 2 requires candidates to articulate their
ideas for one to two minutes, and the assessment criteria include fluency, coherence, vocabulary range, and pronunciation. The lesson will allow
students to brainstorm relevant vocabulary and idiomatic expressions before preparing to discuss their personal health and fitness goals. This
preparatory phase is designed to build their confidence and ensure they feel comfortable expressing their thoughts. Group discussions will encourage
interaction among peers, offering a supportive environment for practicing speaking. This collaborative approach helps students articulate their ideas
more clearly while reinforcing their understanding of the vocabulary introduced earlier. By blending listening and speaking activities, students will
cultivate essential skills needed to achieve higher band scores in the IELTS exam and improve their overall communication abilities.

, Which lesson topic have you chosen? Why? (minimum 100 words)
I have chosen to focus on the topic of health and fitness for this lesson, rather than exploring subjects like work, the environment, or education, because
I believe it resonates with nearly everyone. Almost everyone has some level of interest, experience, or opinion regarding health and fitness, making it a
universally relevant subject. Health is a crucial aspect of life that we all confront at various points, especially when dealing with illness. The ability to
discuss health-related issues in English is essential, as communicating with healthcare professionals can be intimidating, even in one's native language.
Given the wealth of information available on health and fitness, it’s important to equip students with the vocabulary and critical thinking skills needed to
engage in discussions, express their opinions, and evaluate the reliability of the information they encounter. This will empower them to understand and
analyze health-related facts effectively. Additionally, one of my students, Ana, has expressed a desire to pursue a nursing career in the UK, which
underscores the topic's relevance for her. Furthermore, four out of the six students in the class aim to work or study abroad, highlighting the necessity
for them to communicate effectively about health and fitness when they are away from home. By choosing this topic, I aim to provide students with
essential tools that will not only prepare them for the IELTS exam but also enhance their overall communication skills in real-life situations.
