Verbs
• Doing/Action words (run, work, play, fight, etc.)
• Can also show the state of the subject (be, exist, seem, belong, etc.)
• Tells us what a subject does or is.
• Auxiliary verbs are helping verbs that cannot stand on their own
(can, must, may, will, shall, etc)
• Finite verbs can stand on their own and show the tense, person and
number of the subject. They can form a full sentence with a subject
(John plays.)
Examples:
John plays hockey. (verb = plays, shows Action)
• Plays is a Finite verb, it can show tense (played = past) and number
(they play = plural)
He seems kind. (verb = seems, shows State)
