3 Phases of Interview - ANSWER Opening Phase (5-10min): Rapport,
background information, sets agenda and tone for rest of interview.
Middle Phase (30-40min): Body of interview. Includes dx questioning.
Closing Phase (5-10min): Discussion of assessment plan, tx, and/or f/u.

3) Use nonverbal responses
Reinforcement - ANSWER Positive/encouraging words and actions to convey
interest and encourage pt to continue.
Ex: "I see", "Go on", "Tell me more", "hmm", "uh-huh".
Reflection - ANSWER Use pt's words to reflect back what they are hearing.
Stated as fact, not as a question.
Ex: "You sound sad when you talk about her."
