PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE ANSWERING THE
EXAMINATION QUESTIONS.
1. The examination question paper counts 100 marks.
2. It consists of TWO questions. Answer ALL of the questions.
3. The duration of the examination on the timetable is 4 hours.
4. In addition to the duration of the examination indicated on the timetable, you are given 30 minutes to
FINALISE the uploading of your exam file. Your exam file must be uploaded via the myExams
platform on 16 October 2023 BEFORE 17:15 (South African Standard Time).
5. This is an open-book examination. You may consult your prescribed study material during the
examination as well as additional resources shared by your lecturer on your module site.
6. This examination is proctored via the Invigilator App. You are required to activate (or log in to) the
Invigilator app between 12:30 and 13:15 (South African Standard Time).

Case study


You are called to the scene of an armed robbery at the casino in your station area. When

you arrive at the scene you find that several shops have been targeted by the robbers.

Clothes, handbags, shoes, and other items are scattered on the floor of some of the shops,

which were targeted and some items are also lying in the corridors in front of the shops

leading to the entrance where the robbers exited the building. According to information, there

were about 25 robbers and a few shots were also fired. Spent cartridges are also lying

strewn across the scene. Two security guards were beaten with firearms by the robbers

when they tried to intervene, they were seriously injured and blood is spattered against the

outside walls of the bookstore. You are also informed that members of the highway patrol

managed to arrest five suspected robbers, who were fleeing from the scene after chasing

them on the highway. The robbers fired several shots at the police, who returned fire. Five

firearms and several stolen items were also confiscated together with the white Toyota

Quantum minibus the robbers were travelling in.
