How we make the diagnosis in the lab?
• Real time PCR (multiplexed)
• Isothermal amplification methods (Loop mediated isothermal amplification)
• Turn- around time: <1hour ~ 24hours
• Test Pack (immunofluorescence) Flu A & B and RSV only
• Point of care lateral flow tests for SARS-CoV-2 being launched (direct and antibody detection)
Specimens:
• Nasopharyngeal aspirate or swab
• Throat swab
• Saliva
• Broncho-alveolar lavage
The old and the new in sensing
How do we sense what is going on in the community?
As technology advances how could we use other approaches?
- Social media
- Prescriptions
- Point of care/self-diagnostics
What are the challenges of using/deploying these approaches?
