Well-structured ENN1504 PORTFOLIO (ANSWERS) Semester 2 2024 - DISTINCTION GUARANTEED. (DETAILED ANSWERS - DISTINCTION GUARANTEED!)..... QUESTION 1: MINUTES OF A MEETING BACKGROUND Dr Nku is the Manager of the Wellness Clinic at Conwell College. The college services five campuses. He has been tasked with the organisation of the main event of the year, the Cancer Awareness Campaign celebrations, which would bring all the workers and students together at a central venue. A planning committee, consisting of Wellness Clinic staff, members of the Student Representative Council (SRC) and Conwell College Management sat together in a meeting to discuss about preparations for the event to be held on 10 November 2024. INSTRUCTIONS Below is a transcript (exact words written down) of what was said under the agenda item 4.1 of this meeting presented in the form of a dialogue. As the secretary of the Wellness Clinic department, you are tasked with the responsibility to take minutes during meetings. At this point, the meeting was discussing agenda item 4.1 Cancer Awareness Campaign Celebrations. Write minutes of a meeting for agenda item 4.1 only. This means that the complete format for minutes is not required. Remember that in taking minutes, we carefully select and summarise information, and make changes to style and grammar. Note that you should not record what each person said in turn. You should use the linear format (sentences and paragraphs) of minutes. Your minutes must be at least 1 page in length. TRANSCRIPT Dr Nku (Chair): Ladies and gentlemen, Cancer is a major threat to the world of work and has had a huge impact on the most productive segment of the labour force. We have so far addressed most of the crucial issues that are affecting the wellness of our college community, including recent complaints about drug abuse that is recently negatively affecting the employees. This has made us realise that the college should strengthen the department of counselling so that such affected employees receive adequate support. We are now progressing into this crucial agenda item 4.1 Cancer Awareness 5 Campaign Celebrations. This is one of the most crucial events that the college holds every year. The intention is to ensure that most of the people get as much information about Cancer infection, preventative measures, and how to live a normal life whilst infected with Cancer. Before we get into suggestions of how we can organise the 2024 event, let me allow Dr Tlou, our researcher, to brief us about what it means to commemorate World Cancer Day. Dr Tlou: Thank you Chair for allowing me to share crucial information about these commemorations. Commemorations of World Cancer Day in 2024 are done under the theme Increasing Impact through Transparency, Accountability and Partnerships, and as the Cancer infection enters its fourth decade, few, if any, workplaces remain untouched. Lest we forget, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO), the majority of infected people are between 25 and 49 years old. Half the nation's workforce falls into this age group. Businesses around the globe are steadily counting up the cost of Cancer infections and the statistics are staggering. According to the WHO, the disease is the world’s leading infectious killer, claiming to date more than 25 million lives. Given this information, colleagues, it is important that we strengthen our awareness campaigns, and make a difference. Over to you Chair! Dr Nku: Thank you Dr Tlou, for putting the matter into proper perspective. Ladies and gentlemen, let us now look at how we can make 2024 Cancer Awareness Campaign celebrations remarkable and successful. Let us think about activities that are exciting and informative. The floor is open for your inputs. : Dr Mago: Thank you so much Dr Tlou, for sharing such important information with us. We must praise the efforts of the government on the progress made 6 nationally regardless of many challenges and resource constraints. Some of the successes include a reduction in Cancer infections, particularly among the economically active age group (15–49), and an increase in voluntary testing. These days people get to know their status sooner, seek treatment sooner, hence the increase in the number of people on treatment. However, it cannot be left to the government alone to continue the fight against Cancer. I suggest that we obtain the main guest speaker from the Department of Health who will be able to share with us information about what the corporate world and responsible citizens need to help stop the spread of Cancer as it makes them less productive in the workplace. Mr Sello: The SRC has started already with the preparations for the event. I am a member of the small committee from the SRC that has brainstormed about the expectations from the students and staff on the day of the event. The SRC has taken the responsibility to design posters and flyers to remind staff i n a l l t h e c amp u s e s and students about the title and date of the event. All staff and students will be requested to wear the T-shirts bearing the college colours. Each student must be in possession of the entry ticket of R20 for fund raising. One of the SRC members is busy designing entrance cards for the students. All campuses are expected to be at the venue by 09:00. Buses will ferry them from campuses. Pink ribbons will be pinned on everyone present to symbolise the event. Dr Tau: It looks like the SRC is far ahead with the preparations. Thank you students for taking such initiatives. College Management has reserved some funds to finance this event. That includes securing the presence of a credible guest speaker from the Department of Health. The Department of Health will have stalls where information about Cancer will be given. Free food and refreshments will be served after the event and ribbons will be provided to all the attendees. We are also in discussions with a musician who might agree to grace the day at a discounted price. 7 Dr Lefika: The Wellness Clinic team is also working hard to make the event credible. We intend to send invitations to key figures in the community and have also selected a catering committee which has finalised its food budget and submitted it to us. One of the committee members is also still designing a programme for the day. We are also yet to find a Cancer survivor who will provide a word of encouragement at the event. Dr Nku: Ladies and gentlemen, I think we have covered a reasonable scope about the preparations of our main event of the year. Are there any objections to what have been suggested so far? All: No Chair! Dr Nku: Thank you so much ladies and gentlemen, for your inputs. All the suggestions will be submitted to the College Management team for approval and funding. The meeting is adjourned. SUB-TOTAL: 50 Marks QUESTION 2: INVESTIGATIVE REPORT The purpose of this question is to establish whether you know how to write an investigative report.
