, 1. Describe your personal experiences with learning fractions as a student.
Discuss any challenges or difficulties you encountered when first
introduced to fractions. Explain how your understanding evolved over
time.

When I was first introduced to fractions, I found the concept somewhat abstract and
challenging. Unlike whole numbers, which were straightforward to understand and
visualize, fractions represented parts of a whole, making them less intuitive. I
particularly struggled with adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions,
especially when different denominators were involved. Visual aids like pie charts
offered some assistance, but translating these visuals into numerical operations was
difficult.

However, with consistent practice and repetition, my understanding of fractions
improved. I started recognizing patterns, especially when it came to finding common
denominators and simplifying fractions. This progression made me more comfortable
with working with fractions and applying them to various problems.

2. Share your experiences and insights gained from your own learning
journey. Reflect on the challenges you typically face when learning
fractions.

One of the biggest challenges I encountered was applying fractions to real-life
situations, like measurements or problem-solving in mathematics. Initially, the
abstract nature of fractions made it hard for me to see their practical value. However,
as I gained more experience, I realized that fractions are everywhere—from sharing
a piece of cake to measuring ingredients in a recipe. This insight greatly improved my
understanding.

Another hurdle was transitioning from simple fractions to more complex operations
involving improper fractions and mixed numbers. This required a deeper
comprehension of how fractions could be broken down and recombined, which took
time for me to grasp and apply.

3. Identify your expectations in this module.

In this module, I expected to gain a more structured and in-depth understanding of
fractions, especially from a teaching perspective. I looked forward to learning
strategies to effectively communicate the concept of fractions to students who may
face similar challenges to those I've encountered. My aim is to develop methods that
make fractions more relatable and easier to understand, using real-life examples and
practical applications.

I also hoped this module would equip me with the skills to address common
misconceptions about fractions and help build a strong foundational understanding.
By the end of the module, I expected to feel confident in my ability to teach fractions
in a way that is both engaging and accessible to all students.
