UNIQUE NUMBER: 200235

, ACTIVITY 1
1.1. Area – is the measure of the amount of space inside a two-dimensional boundary or
shape. It is expressed in square units (square centimetres, square metres). In practical
terms, area quantifies the surface covered by a shape or object.
1.2.
Square units:
These are the units used to measure area. A square unit is a square with sides of
one unit length. Common units include square metres (m²), square centimetres
(cm²), and square inches (in²)
Recognizing that area is measured in square units emphasizes the concept that
area qualifies how many unit squares can fit inside a given shape. This
understanding is crucial for calculating and comparing area.
Two-dimensional boundary or shape:
This refers to the outline or perimeter of a flat figure that has length and width but
no depth. Examples include square, rectangles, circles, and irregular polygons.
Understanding that area pertains to two-dimensional figures helps differentiate it
from other measurements like perimeter (which is the length around a shape) or
volume (which is the space within a three-dimensional object)
