thinking is encouraged. You will be penalised if you copy directly from the study guide, your
fellow students or other sources.
QUESTION 1: Personal Reflection [58 marks]
Only you can answer this personal reflection question. You know your own experiences
and need to reflect on them to understand better the challenges of the learners you may
teach, regarding diversity and appropriate support.
1.1 Think about your own experiences at school, particularly about a need or
challenge you may have had. This may include a subject you had difficulty with.
Column A: If YES, you felt supported.
1.1.1 What was the need/challenge?
I struggled a lot with mathematics, especially algebra. The concepts were difficult for me to
grasp, and I often fell behind in class.
1.1.2 How were you supported or cared for?
My mathematics teacher noticed that I was struggling and offered to give me extra lessons
after school. She was very patient and explained the concepts in different ways until I
understood them. Additionally, she paired me with a study buddy who was good at math, so
I had someone to help me during class as well.
