The table here shows results of the breathing rate of the volunteer when they were at rest
and when they were exercising, looking from the results we can see that the breathing rate
of the person is faster after exercising. This is because more oxygen is brought into your
lungs so that your lungs can pump more oxygen into your blood and out to your muscles. To
carry out this investigation we;

1. First measured the breathing rate of the volunteer at rest before the volunteer did any
action of movement.
2. Then record the data in a suitable table.
3. The volunteer ran up and down the stairs for 15 seconds so that level of movement
increased therefore their breathing rate would have increased.
4. We measured the volunteers breathing rate (multiplied number by 4 to get 1 minute
result)
5. We waited another 15 seconds for the volunteers heart/breathing rate to go back to
his normal rate before doing any movement again.
6. This experiment was repeated a total of 7 times and at the end of all the results we
calculated and average total from all the results.

To keep our results as accurate as possible we had to be aware of the variables. Our
controlled variables were the person running, the amount of time they ran for, the
time of their rest after exercise, the distance they had to run and the person taking
the breathing rate. It was important to take accuracy of results in to consideration
therefore making it easy to make conclusions from the results. It was also important
that the same person had to be running each time as different people have different
abilities and their stamina is different therefore affecting the results. The time the
person exercised also needed to be the kept the same as prolonged or insufficient
exercise would change their rate of respiration. The runner was only given a 1-minute
break and this time was repeated throughout. Lastly, it had to be the same person
observing the respiration as another person may have considered a different
movement respiration. The dependent variable for the experiment was the breathing
rate as it was what we measured. This was the only dependent variable in order to
eliminate confusion.
