1.1 Definitions
a) Modern Democracy (3)
Modern democracy refers to a system of government where power is vested in the
people. It is characterized by free and fair elections, the rule of law, protection of
human rights, and the separation of powers. Modern democracies ensure that
citizens have the right to participate in political processes, express their opinions,
and hold their leaders accountable.
b) Citizenship Education (3)
Citizenship education is the process of educating individuals about their rights,
responsibilities, and roles as citizens within a society. It aims to develop informed,
active, and responsible citizens who are aware of their rights and duties,
understand democratic principles, and participate effectively in civic and political
activities.
