a) Modern democracy
Modern democracy is a form of political system by which the people or individuals
govern themselves; hence, the government is elected by the people, and most
eligible citizens have an equal say in determining the decisions that have an impact
on their lives. Key Features of modern democracy include:.
Rule of Law: The law is applicable to everyone in the land, including those in
positions of leadership.
Individual Rights: Encompasses the respect for human rights and protection of
individual liberties and rights, such as the right of speech, assembly, and religion.
b) Citizenship education
This refers to the process of education and socializing people about their roles,
rights, and duties in the society. Its major goals would be as follows:


Knowledge of Civic Institutions: This comes to integrate knowledge on the design of
the government and the roles of other civic bodies.
Skills for Participation: Acquiring skills needed to engage constructively within civic
life, including critical thinking and debating. Values and Dispositions: Instilling
democratic values, respect for diversity, and a feeling of belonging to a community

citizenship education are:
It emphasizes the learning of structures and rights of citizens. It gives much
importance to hearing about history, government functions, and laws. It gives less
importance to practical involvement/engagement and participation. Activist

It promotes actual participation/involvement and engagement in the operations of
civic life. It involves several first-hand experience activities such as debates,
community service, and simulations of democratic processes. It builds practical
