For your final assignment, we present you with two options to choose from: 2.1
Option 1: Overcrowded Classrooms.
2.2 Option 2: Support for Learners with Physical Disabilities.

"Impacts of Overcrowded Classrooms on Student Performance and Teacher Effectiveness in South
African Schools"

2. Introduction

Overcrowded classrooms are a big problem in South African schools. This issue affects how well
students do in school and how well teachers can teach. Many schools in South Africa have too many
students in each classroom, which makes it hard for teachers to give individual attention to their
students (Blatchford et al., 2011). This can lead to lower grades, less engagement, and a harder time
focusing in class (Bascia, 2010). This problem is even worse in South Africa because of other challenges
like poverty and inequality (Spaull, 2013).

Teachers also suffer when classrooms are overcrowded. They get too much stress and work, which can
lead to burnout and unhappiness in their job (Skaalvik & Skaalvik, 2016). It's harder for teachers to
manage their classrooms and teach effectively when there are too many students. This can make the
quality of education worse.

To improve education in South Africa, we need to fix the problem of overcrowded classrooms. This
research aims to study how overcrowded classrooms affect student performance and teacher
effectiveness. By looking at both numbers and stories, this study hopes to provide a complete
understanding of the issue and suggest solutions for policymakers, educators, and stakeholders. Fixing
this problem is essential for creating a fair and effective education system where all students can
succeed.
