A properly investigated and planned construction site - ANS--Is safer
- Is more productive
-Has higher morale of workers
-Has better maneuverability
-translates to time savings and reduced costs
The Construction Site - ANS-Local factors affect performance. Programs of WBS may work in
one area, but not another.
-need to visit with geotechnical report and topographic information
Geographical Conditions - ANS-Location of site in proximity to nearest towns/cities, economic
conditions of locations and utilities available
Topographical Conditions - ANS-Slope and level of the site, can infuence the organization of the
site, can result in limited areas available for construction facilities and access. Investigate any
slopes for stability during site visit.
Geotechnical Conditions - ANS--surface to bedrock depth
-soil layers and geotechnical properties
-frost penetration
-recommendations for sub-surface work (foundation, site drainage, pavement, utility trenches,
etc.)
Weather Conditions - ANS-Climate affects human activities when performing out in the open
Site Visits - ANS-Aim is to collect systematically and record all necessary data which will be
needed or will help in the construction of the proposed work. Helps to understand how to
organize site
Site Visits include - ANS-Inspection of entire site consisting of:
1. Roads and access to site
2. Pipes and utilities servicing the site
3. Potential costs to develop site
4. Environmental analysis
Site Layout design - ANS-Depends on site access, temp facilities and equipment access and
placement
Temp Facilities - ANS-Size and number depends on site size, nature of work and number of
people on site
