HOOPVOL VRAE

MOONTLIKE LANG VRAE
POSSIBLE LONGER TYPE QUESTIONS

Discuss Nathalie’s relationship with the men in her life.

gelede.

Nathalie’s dad had a plumbing business in town, but both her parents died
(oorlede) in a car accident (motorongeluk) on the Oudtshoorn road five
years ago.

(p15)

Pastoor Chalmers was soos ‘n pa vir Nathalie.

, pastoor Chalmers ‘n vaderfiguur vir haar was.

Since (vandat) her parents died, pastoor Chalmers and his wife took pity on
Nathalie. The house was Nathalie’s, but the lawyer (prokureur)
determined/decided (beslis) that the pastor (who only got married in his old
age) and his wife could (kon) stay/live (bly) there if they looked after Nathalie
until she was twenty one and could take hold of (in besit kon neem) her
inheritance (erfporsie) legally (wettiglik).

Pastoor Chalmers was like (soos) a father to Nathalie. They would chat on the
bench (bankie) in the garden. There was one time where they were sitting and
talking and pastoor Chalmers took his tie (das) off. Nathalie found this strange
(vreemd) because she had never seen him without (sonder) a tie. That was the
day he told her about Laetitia and her past (verlede). This was also the first
time (keer) Nathalie referred to (verwys na) the ugly (lelike) carpet (mat) in
juffrou September’s office (kantoor) and how she thought that it made juffrou
September feel even more sad (hartseerder). (p62). It was the same carpet as
the one in the vestry (a room in the church where the dominee would have a
meeting with the deacons and the elders before or after the sermon).

Nathalie was sad the day of the church bazaar because she knew it would be her
last one with pastoor Chalmers because she was going to leave (weggaan) with
Bobby. It was also the day that she discovered (ontdek) that pastoor Chalmers
was juffrou September’s great love (groot liefde) whom she always spoke
(gepraat) about. It is ironic, because juffrou September was a type of
sister/mother figure to Nathalie like what pastoor Chalmers was a father figure
to her.

This relationship (verhouding) was a good one for Nathalie because she loved
pastoor Chalmers and he never did anything (iets) to disappoint (teleurgestel)
her.

Hy is ‘n baie skaam man: hy bloos wanneer Liefie hom terg en hy glimlag altyd

Afrikaans First Additional Language Book Summaries and Exams for Grades 8 - 12

I completed my BA Afrikaans Dutch and Honor degrees, as well as my teaching degree, all Cum Laude. I have 17 years of teaching and tutoring experience and translate the work my students are given, to English for them because this way, it puts them in a better position to obtain the best possible Afrikaans mark they can get. We all know how frustrating it is when that one subject pulls down your entire average: don't let that subject be Afrikaans any longer with my help!
