learning losses in the Western Cape.

Question 1.

In an essay of 1000 to 1200 words, write a detailed discussion on how the writer has used
diction and register for the purposes of persuading the reader that interventions are required
to reverse learning losses after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Essay

Reading through Unit 2 Language and meaning in study guide, the choice of words (diction) and
the level of formality (register) play crucial roles in shaping the meaning and impact of any text.
The extract from #BackOnTreack campaign# explores how a writer employ these tools to
persuade readers that interventions are necessary to reverse learning losses after the COVID-19
pandemic. We are examining the conceptual and associative meanings of words and the strategic
use of different registers, we can gain insight into the techniques that make persuasive arguments
compelling.
