HIST 2111 FINAL EXA M (Essay)Already Gr aded Clayto n University HIST 2111 Final Exam Essay #1 History is told in many different forms by many different kinds of people. Some historians’ approaches work better than others depending on how well they executed their story. Gordon S. Wood’s historical approach on the Early Republic is the most effective. William Cronon’s Changes in the Land (1983) was written to share an ecological history. He wrote the “paradox of wants in a land of plenty”. Cronon showed the way Indians and English settlers reacted to the land around them. There was an abundance of plant and animal life. Settlers were greedy and the Indians appreciated the resources they had around them. Cronon used primary sources to back up his statements which hold the source from being the better source. The data from other colonies that turned to the liberal side would help support their side. They also share too much data instead of getting to the point, this can cause the audience to lose track of the reason of the source. Gordon S. Wood’s “The Significance of the Early Republic”, shows the importance of the early republic. Wood felt as if the early republic had not gotten the attention it deserved. The source shares a society that is mainly ran by white males and many people do not like listening about that. Minority groups like women and blacks were not represented well in the society, so it 1
