2. THE SCHOOL CONTEXT

Complete the following open-ended questions to the best of your ability: Please give as much
information as possible.
1. Description of your school (location, age, facilities, how many learners, how many teachers,
LOLT, etc.)

The school, Curro Waterfall, is located in a suburban area, easily accessible via major roads
and public transport. Established in 2013, it offers modern facilities including well-equipped
classrooms, science and computer labs, a library, sports fields, and arts and cultural facilities.
The school has approximately 800 learners and 50 teachers. The Language of Learning and
Teaching (LOLT) is English.

2. Description of your classroom (size, facilities, learning and teaching support materials,
classroom atmosphere, etc.)

The classroom is spacious, accommodating around 30 learners. It is equipped with
smartboards, projectors, and ample learning and teaching support materials such as textbooks,
interactive learning tools, and art supplies. The classroom atmosphere is welcoming and
conducive to learning, with colorful displays and a variety of seating arrangements to facilitate
group work and individual learning.

3. Description of your learners (number per class, level of readiness to learn, their home and
environmental conditions etc.)

The class consists of 30 learners, ranging from highly motivated and eager to learn to some
who require additional support. Many learners come from stable, supportive home
environments, but there are also a few from challenging backgrounds that impact their
readiness to learn. The school provides additional support through counseling and
individualized learning plans.

4. How did the information you have gathered in Questions 1 to 3 affect your lesson planning,
teaching and assessment? How did you adapt your lessons, methods and resources for your
particular school?

Understanding the school's resources and the learners' backgrounds helped tailor my lesson
plans to be inclusive and engaging. I incorporated interactive and technology-based methods to
leverage the school's facilities. For learners needing extra support, I designed differentiated
instruction strategies and used varied assessment methods to ensure all learners could
demonstrate their understanding.

5. Description of your mentor/subject/learning area teacher (knowledge, teaching experience,
helpfulness, guidance, etc.).

My mentor, Ms. Smith, has over 15 years of teaching experience and a deep knowledge of the
curriculum. She is extremely helpful and provides insightful guidance. Her teaching methods
are innovative, and she frequently shares valuable resources and strategies that enhance my
