Question 1
1. You have applied for a physical educator position at a school, and you have
been invited to be interviewed for the position. In the interview, you are
asked to talk about what your high-level objectives of developing a physical
education programme are. In your own words, write down how you would
answer this question. (5)

When deciding on my high-level objectives I will consider the types and degrees
of disabilities of the learners and whether they are in separate groups or in a
group with able-bodied learners

My high-level objectives of developing a physical education programme will
include:
 Creating a happy/positive environment where learners can enjoy themselves.
 Developing physical fitness in order to establish and maintain long-term health.
 Developing self-respect, alertness, confidence and self-control among all
learners.
 Encourage learners who are less active to be more active.
 Encourage learners to play games, to be a good sport which means not to be
a sore loser or winner, to encourage cooperation with their peers and respect
what they have and what the school can provide to them.
 Give learners with disabilities opportunities to participate in the same activities
as their peers.

2. You are a physical educator at a poor rural school with limited resources.
After reading section 2.3 (pages 9–10, focus on points 1–7) in your study
guide, write down seven (7) sentences in your own words that would
highlight likely challenges to teaching physical education at this school.
(7)

Challenges to teaching physical education at this school:

1. The vast development of technology. With the widespread of modern
technology, there is less need for human activity as machines take over
human work, concluding that people become less active and children
spending more time indoors and watching television, will develop bad
postures and physical defects will be more common.
2. Parents working long hours. Poor economies have forced parents to take
up a second job to provide enough food for their families which led to them
spending not enough time with their children and learning them basic
physical skills.
3. Bad planning of the school timetable. With all the work teachers need to do,
it makes coaching difficult in the afternoons and due to the fact that some
teachers have a lack of basic skills and knowledge, their coaching may
actually do more harm than good to learners. There may also not be
enough sporting equipment.
