, Responses to the questions:
Question 1:
1.1 In which scenario is assessment for inclusivity practised? Support your answer.
Scenario B.
Assessment for inclusivity is there to identify any learning barriers within a learner
from a young age and to implement strategies to support the learning needs of each
individual. It needs to be done from a young age to prevent any further difficulties
which can be experienced by learners at a later stage in their academic careers. This
is a process where educators develop an understanding of the individual, their
abilities and learning needs for effective learning to take place (Mahlo 2019).
In scenario B, we can clearly see Mr Japhta is a foundation phase teacher who is
tasked with screening and identifying learners with learning challenges. He prepares
assessment activities to identify learning needs which is then being used to provide
the necessary support to learners.

1.2 In which scenario is the assessment of learners’ scholastic achievement used? Give
reasons for your answer.
Scenario A.
Assessment of learners’ scholastic achievement is not being used to identify any
learning barriers but is being used for grading purposes.
In scenario A, we can see that Mrs Molefe gives her learners assessment tasks at the
end of each learning unit, which they are required to complete to prepare for their
quarterly and formal examinations. It also states that these assessment tasks have
proven to be very helpful to learners, including those who experience learning
barriers. Learners use this assessment in order to prepare for their future
examinations, which can determine whether they progress to the next grade or be
unsuccessful and need to repeat the same grade.

1.3 In which scenario is the usage of the SIAS policy going to be vital? Give reasons for
your answer.
Scenario B.
In scenario B, the SIAS policy is going to be vital because Mr Japhta is tasked with the
screening and identifying of learners with learning barriers. He should consider the
SIAS policy:
Mahlo 2019, states that The Screening, Identification, Assessment and Support (SIAS)
Policy (Department of Education 2014) aims to identify; the barriers to learning
