1.2 Advantages:
• The platforms are available to anyone which makes sharing of resources
easy.
• Learning becomes easier as the cost is minimal with the resource itself being
free.
• Students can extend their own learning by researching various topics and can
work ahead if they wish.
• OERs are available not only at school but from anywhere with a device.
• OERs are most of the time up to date and current, whereas resources such as
textbooks become outdated.
Disadvantages:
• Not everyone has access to internet or a device to use the OERs.
• Not all students/teachers are technologically inclined and may struggle to
use an OER.
• Internet can be a problem, especially where I live, there are often disruptions
to communications due to weather.
• Loadshedding poses a problem as internet goes down and devices cannot be
charged.
• Not all students/teachers can afford to have internet access or a device other
than at school.
