Inleiding

• Cluster van risicofactoren voor cardiovasculaire aandoeningen en diabetes type 2.
• 1988 Reaven syndroom X
• Insulineresistentie en hyperinsulinemie niet primair
• Latere naam: insulineresistentie syndroom
• Recent oorzaak in vetweefsel
• Ook andere risicofactoren leken gekoppeld aan insulineresistentie:
• verminderde fibrinolyse, endotheeldisfunctie,aanwezigheid van kleine LDL-
cholesteroldeeltjes (‘smalldense’-LDL), hypercoagulabiliteit, ontsteking
• MetS verhoogde kans op DM (Diabetes) type 2 (5x) en cvd (Cardiovasculaire) (2x)
