Authentic Leadership
 Luthans and Avolio (2003) defined authentic leadership as: "a process that draws
from both positive psychological capacities and a highly developed organizational
context, which results in both greater self-awareness and self-regulated positive
behaviours on the part of leaders and associates, fostering positive self-
development" (p. 243).
 “to thine own self be true” Zielinska, 2012,p.1
 Example:
o Barrack Obama – demonstrated his emotions 7 times in public (most
memorably in Twenty children, aged between six and seven years old, and six
teachers were shot dead by Adam Lanza in 2012 at Sandy Hook elementary
school).

o Idea that the person you present to the world is the person you are in
private

 Values – family, work ethic, respect (self/others), making a difference – positive
