(CRRT) powerpoint
CRRT is like hemodialysis but it is
continuous
With CRRT blood circulates
outside the body

What does CRRT use to move water, electrolytes, and small to medium-sized molecules?
Ultrafiltration
With CRRT we need to know whether we are giving fluid back for
dehydration or for electrolyte replacement
How many different types of CRRT are there?
3 different types
CVVH, CVVH/D and slow continuous hemofiltration
CRRT will be given through which port?
§Large bore dual-lumen central venous catheter designed for hemodialysis
, Why is there a pump used when giving CRRT treatment
to assist flow
CRRT rate
Rate is much slower than hemodialysis and mimics the patients natural blood flow - this reduces
the side effects
CVVH/D adds
dialysate which increases the ability to move waster. Used in uremia that needs to be
aggressively managed
CVVH is used to
primarily remove excess fluid
Who would get CRRT?
-Pts with high risk hemodynamic instability
-Pts who do not tolerate rapid fluid shifts that occur with hemodialysis
-Pts that require large amts of IV fluids or parenteral nutrition
-In pts who need more than the usual 3-4hrs of hemodialysis to correct metabolic imbalances in
ARF
CRRT contraindications
When pt becomes hemodynamically stable or no longer require CRRT - intermittent
hemodialysis is now appropriate for these pts.
CRRT Equipment
Taking blood from the body and filter in machine then return to the body.
Pre-CRRT nursing assessment
Before you start dialysis crrt we need to know baseline VS - to see the effects of CRRT.
