Hemodynamic Monitoring Exam | 98 Questions with Complete Solutions
What is the goal of hemodynamic monitoring? The primary goal of management of a critically ill patient is to ensure adequate oxygenation of tissues and organs, indications for hemodynamic monitoring include conditions in which cardiac output is insufficient to deliver oxygen to the cells due to alterations in intravascular volume (preload), alterations in vascular resistance (afterload), or alterations in myocardial contractility. Organs do not work by themselves, so if one organ is injured it will effect other organs. What is preload? volume of blood in ventricles at end of diastole •Known as filling pressures (“The Tank”) –Volume in the ventricle at end- diastole •The right and left ventricle have their own preload measurements –LVEDP = PAOP = 8 -12 mmHg (Do not see in practice most of the time) –RVEDP = CVP = 2 - 8 mmHg
