These congenital incomplete structures are usually found in the chest wall below the normal nipple structures. These structures run along the embryonic milk line from under the arm to the groin. Many women are unaware of them unless they become tender during lactation. Supernumerary nipples do not interfere with lactation. Ectopic breast tissue is additional breast tissue that develops along with the two main breasts. It's usually present under the arm. It may go undetected until the tissue leaked milk & or engorged with lactation. Ectopic breast tissue doesn't interfere with breastfeeding; however it may cause discomfort related to engorgement. Time, patience, & cold applications usually relieve the discomfort.
