Many micro cultures exist within one larger macro culturen The macro culture is ofen the
dominant culture of a region, area or naton and upholds certain societal views, behaviours
and valuesn A micro culture within a macro culture may have some of the same values etcn as
the macro culture it is within, but it will also have its own unique values, views, traditons
etcn
For example, in the School environment, the school itself can be seen as a micro culture
within the macro culture of South African culturen It upholds the values and traditons of the
dominant culture (South African culture), but also has some of its own unique traditonsn For
example, one school may have assembly everyday while another may have assemblies only
on Mondayn
Within the school, the school itself could be seen as the macro culture, with the code of
conduct guiding its values, traditons etcn, and a classroom may have its own micro culture
where they uphold the values and rules of the school (the code of conduct) but also handle
behavioural discipline in a way that is unique to that classroomn For example, the teacher
might ring a small bell to tell the children to be quietn
