P1 - Explain the requirements for two diferent careers in the health sector
To work in the health sector the requirements you will need are a DBS, the right qualifcaaons, the right skills, work
experience, a posiaie aatude and a registraaon or license.

One career in health and social care is a psychologist. A psychologist will require a DBS because they work with
iulnerable people who haie mental health issues. The qualifcaaons that they will need are fie GSE's with A-G
grades including English, maths and someames science, three A-Leiels with A-G grades, or a BTEG course which is
equiialent to three A-Leiels such as a leiel 3. Next, they will haie to study at uniiersity and get a degree in
psychology. The skills they will need are communicaaon skills, they need to be compassionate and empatheac, they
need to be emoaonally stable, they haie to be paaent and trustworthy. Possible work experience that they could do
is iolunteering as a youth support worker, community seriice iolunteering, working with people with disabiliaes or
learning difficulaes, working on mental health wards, working with the NHS, or working with the elderly. Also, they
need to haie a posiaie aatude towards mental illness, and no sagma. Lastly, the indiiidual will haie to be
registered with HGPG and BPS.

Another career in health and social care is midwifery. A midwife will also require a DBS because she is working with
pregnant women and new born babies. The qualifcaaons she will need are fie GSE's with A-G grades including
maths and English, two A-Leiels with A-G grades, or a BTEG course which is equiialent to that such as a leiel 3. Next,
they will haie to study at uniiersity and get a degree in midwifery. The skills she will need are good listening skills,
communicaaon skills, she has to be caring and compassionate and kind. Possible work experience to become a
midwife is working in a clinic, mother and baby group, breasteeding support groups, or shadowing a nurse at a
hospital. It is important that midwiies haie a posiaie aatude and are friendly as women in labour will need that
support to make them feel beter. Lastly, a midwife will haie to be registered with NMG.

M1 - Assess how a health worker can contribute to providing a positve experience
for users of health services
There are seieral things that health and social workers can do to contribute to proiiding a posiaie experience for
users of health seriices.

For example psychologists can create a posiaie experience by listening to the paaent. This is important because they
work with people who haie mental health issues and haie come to them to speak about their problems. Also, they
should make the paaent feel ialued and not rush them. This is because it has taken them a lot of courage to open up
to someone about their problems, and the worst thing someone could do is make them feel like what they are
saying is not ialued. Another thing that psychologists could do is to be friendly towards the paaent, as this would
make them feel safer when opening up about personal issues. Howeier, a barrier that could arise is the lack of
interpersonal skills and inability to communicate with the paaent. This would mean that the psychologist would be
unable to help the paaent with their issues, as they would be unable to discuss them.

A midwife can create a posiaie experience by creaang a healthy eniironment. Such as making sure that the paaent
has eierything that she needs so that she feels as comfortable as possible when giiing birth. Also, she could work
towards regulaaons, this would make the paaent feel like the care they are geang is professional and like they are
in safe hands. Another thing that a midwife could do is to proiide emoaonal support such as holding the paaent's
hand and asking her how she is feeling, this is important during a stressful ame like giiing birth. Howeier, a barrier
that could occur is the lack of staf. The health and social care seang should ensure that they haie a router in place
so that each member of staf knows exactly when their shifs are, so that there is enough staf working at all ames.
