Via UNISA
Hi! I have been a successful UNISA student for a few years and want to share some of my advice for
how to cope with you studies and make the most out of your courses. For your interest, I have
completed a BA in Psychology and Communicatons (graduated Cum Laude) from UNISA and a PGCE
(in progress). I also completed an Honours at UCT.
Step 1.
Make sure you’re studying what you want to study. It will be much easier to get through the course
work if you are motvated and interested in what you are studying. Try to avoid studying something
because it seems glamourous or you think you’ll make a lot of money from it. I know accountants
and lawyers who cannot get work and I know people earning a lot of money who are miserable
every day because they hate their jobs. Money can buy a lot, but it can’t buy happiness. Motvaton
and passion are much more likely to lead to career success anyway.
Step 2.
Register and get your study material as soon as possible. I normally register the day registratons
open and get my study material, tutorial leters fairly quickly from UNISA.
Step 3.
Read each tutorial leter 111 carefully. Highlight the important informaton that you may have to
refer back to later in the year. This can include:
Assignment due dates
Special assignment requirements (such as layout, extra forms to fll in etc)
Examinaton dates
Required textbooks
Step 4.
Buy the textbooks. If the course needs you to have a textbook, you will need to have it in some form.
I have goten by on second hand books for most of my course, and there are loads of UNISA students
happy to sell you their own copies.
Step 5.
