, Environmental problem that I have identified:
Illegal waste disposal/dumping
Waste dumping is a major issue in South Africa at large, especially to informal settlement
and nucleated areas because of the large number of population around the place, as a result
it becomes difficult for the municipality to resolve it overnight, and hence I’ve strategies a
long-term action plan to eradicate or minimize the waste disposal in my community.
Fundamentally, unauthorized and unregulated dump sites may appear areas such as vacant
lots, forests, informal settlement, back alleys, and near bodies of water. These sites are often
characterized by piles of garbage, construction debris, and hazardous materials. I have
conducted my research in different dumping areas and also took an initiative to make a
difference by showing the community and educating them about the importance of reduce,
recycle and reuse. These are some of the precaution’s key points I will be discussing in my
portfolio and how I will implement them in our daily lives in order to create a clean and
healthy environment.
