,Euthanase
, General considerations and consequences
• Euthanase is generally done to stop prolonged suffering, pain, debility
or distress.
• In some cases, the owner does not have the resources to care for the
animal. Euthanase is then also an informed and humane treatment
option.
• In other instances, a very old animal is also euthanised because of
complications arising from old age.
• If animals have behavioural problems, or if suitable homes cannot be
found for abandoned animals, then Euthanase is also the last option.
• Some owners request Euthanase just because they no longer want the
animal. You still have to do the procedure if the owner insists on it.
• The consequences of not euthanising an animal when it is required
could be prolonged suffering, more cruelty or it could even cause
environmental harm
