Evaluate the care strategies that can be used to support an individual
with one of the chosen physiological disorders (D2)
In this part of my assignment I am going to be evaluating the care strategies that
can be used to support an individual with asthma. This will mean I will be talking
about the advantages and disadvantages of the care strategies put into place
and making an overall conclusion.
Advantages
Medication can help to reduce severe asthma

Although there's no cure for asthma, there are now lots of incredibly efective
medicines to help relieve the symptoms and cut the risk of asthma attacks.
Health professionals such as GP, asthma nurse and/or consultant can in unison
together using these medicines to make sure asthma is as well managed as
possible. The aim is for the individual to stay symptom-free so that the condition
doesn’t prevent asthma sufers from living a happy life.

However, there are still 5% of people who have severe asthma which means that
the usual medicines are less likely to work and asthma may be harder to manage
(Walker, 2016). This means that this individual will need more complex
treatments to help keep symptoms under control. But thankfully a consultant will
work with this individual to assist in fnding the treatments that best manage this
asthma.
Since the use of inhalers became more widespread in the 1970s, the numbers of
deaths from asthma have fallen (Walker, 2016). Unfortunately, three people in
the UK still die every day because of asthma - it is a serious condition that needs
proper care (Walker, 2016). An estimated two-thirds of these deaths from
asthma are preventable with the use of prescribed medication. An estimated
75% of hospital admissions for asthma are avoidable too (Walker, 2016). Taking
asthma medicines as prescribed and as discussed with GP or asthma nurse is the
best way to prevent asthma symptoms and a potentially a life-threatening
asthma attack.
Did you know, for instance, that research shows most people who take their
asthma medicines properly have very few side efectss And that not taking every
day medicines as prescribed increases the chance of you needing higher doses
of steroid treatment later ons This can conclude that medication is probably one
of the easiest and most efective ways of being able to support an individual with
asthma.
Regular checks ups can help to stay consistent
An asthma check-up is also known as an asthma review and is basically an
appointment organized with a GP or asthma nurse to talk about asthma. It's a
chance to talk about how to manage the symptoms better. Guidelines state that
everyone with asthma should have an asthma review at least once a year
(Walker, 2016). People with severe asthma should have one more often. And if a
child has asthma its important to make sure they go for regular reviews too.
