REMSA Paramedic Drug List Rated A+ Acetaminophen (Tylenol): Class Analgesic, antipyretic Acetaminophen (Tylenol): Action Increases pain threshold and reduces fever by acting on the hypothalamus Acetaminophen (Tylenol): Indications Fever, pain relief Acetaminophen (Tylenol): Contraindications Hypersensitivity and use caution in patients with liver disease Acetaminophen (Tylenol): Onset Onset: 10-30 min PO Acetaminophen (Tylenol): Duration 3-4 hours PO Acetaminophen (Tylenol): Adult Dose/route 325-1000 mg PO every 4-6 hours Acetaminophen (Tylenol): Pediatric Dose/route 15 mg/kg PO/PR every 4-6 hours Acetaminophen (Tylenol): Side effects Nausea/vomiting, hepatotoxicity Activated Charcoal: Class Antidote, adsorbent Activated Charcoal: Action Binds to and absorbs ingested toxins thereby inhibiting their GI absorption. Once the drug binds to the charcoal the combined complex is excreted Activated Charcoal: Indications Acute ingested poisonings that were ingested within the last hour Activated Charcoal: Contraindications Cyanide, mineral acids, caustic alkalis, iron, ethanol, methanol, corrosives, petroleum distillates Activated Charcoal: Onset Immediate Activated Charcoal: Duration Continual while in the GI tract and reaches equilibrium once saturated Activated Charcoal: Adult dose/route 1 g/kg PO Activated Charcoal: Pediatric dose/route 1-2 g/kg PO Activated Charcoal: Side Effects Nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramping, constipation Adenosine: Class Misc. antidysrhythmic, endogenous nucleoside Adenosine: Action Decreases electrical conduction through the AV node without causing negative inotropic effects Adenosine: Indications Supraventricular tachycardias (SVT/PSVT) Adenosine: Contraindications Hypersensitivity, bradycardia, drug induced tachycardia, 2nd or 3rd degree heart blocks, A-Fib, A-Flutter, V-Tach, WPW with A-fib/flutter Adenosine: Onset immediate Adenosine: Duration 10 seconds Adenosine: Adult dose/route 6 mg rapid IV/IO push followed by 20cc saline flush.
